6 Tips to Craft a Mobile Website Optimization Plan

With Google's new mobile search algorithms, and continual changes in the world of SEO, businesses have to create a great mobile website optimization plan in order to stay ahead of the curve. A mobile website is pivotal to online success today; without a mobile site, you might as well give up on online marketing and SEO altogether.

Google Mobile

Since most people visiting your site today are on some kind of mobile device, you have to develop a site that is user friendly, scalable, navigable, and one which will work on nearly any mobile platform which site visitors are visiting your site from. These are some factors to consider in developing the mobile website optimization strategy.

1. Understand Google's Preferences

One of the biggest changes made to Google's mobile search algorithm is giving higher ranking preference to sites with mobile sites. Not only user friendly mobile sites, but navigable, good looking mobile sites, on all mobile platforms. Understanding this change, along with all other factors Google looks at (which include: blogs, back links, SEO keyword terms, references, dynamic HTML, responsive site, etc), will help you outrank competitors in your field.

It is imperative to know what Google looks for, in order to make the right changes. At the present time, it is catering to a mobile audience, developing a navigable site, and creating mobile content users can easily access from anywhere.

2. Responsive design

Given Google's latest affinity with mobile design, responsive site design is critical in your mobile website optimization strategy. Using separate CSS files triggered at mobile devices is key to this responsive design.

A website design theme with responsive option built ins should be purchased and coordinating with a web developer, to create a smooth transition from your desktop site to your mobile site, will also help in creating a more responsive site. The faster the pages load, the higher your site will rank.

3. Know your limits

Part of creating a responsive design is understanding the limits in mobile design. Some of these include:

  • Scrolling (mobile users hate scrolling).
  • Timely information should be prominent.
  • Percentage rather than pixel basis for images.
  • Allowing mobile users to access desktop site.

This, and other limits which you have with mobile site development should be considered. Not only will it help make your mobile site faster, but it will also look better, and is easier for site visitors to navigate through.

4. Cater to mobile SEO

On this front, mobile SEO needs don't greatly differ from desktop needs. So, remember, you need proper page titles, spacing, meta descriptions, and headline tags, to help rank your site. One big thing to keep in mind is mobile keywords will vary, so it is important to keep this in mind as you are developing a mobile SEO strategy for your pages rank.

5. Troubleshoot

Using Google's mobile-friendly testing tool, online optimization matrices, and other online optimization strategies and tools is imperative in testing your site and mobile speeds. You have to test the site speed, load speeds, site layout, and navigability. Where issues are found, the right mobile optimization tools will allow you to fix site inconsistencies, make changes, and address issues visitors are having on different mobile devices. The more navigable and easy to use on all mobile platforms, the better your mobile visibility. Using the troubleshooting tools will allow you to fix, edit, modify, and otherwise make changes to the site as necessary.

6. Continually improve

Google just updated their algorithm, which will affect your rank via Google search on mobile devices. However, this, and other search engines are continually updating their algorithms. As a business owner, you have to continually improve your site, improve mobile navigability, and find ways to make your site more user friendly on mobile devices. Doing so not only guarantees a higher rank, but also more site visits by your consumer and target audience.

There is no right or wrong way to develop a mobile site. However, having a mobile website optimization plan, with viable goals, and matrices in place will help you develop a site which will outrank competitors in Google. Keeping these factors and tips in mind, and using the right tools, will not only help you develop a navigable responsive site, but also one visitors truly love. Further, it will help you move up in ranks, for your business to truly shine in Google mobile search rankings today.

Advanced Ecommerce SEO Strategies for 2015

Ecommerce StrategyWith the influx of competition, basic ecommerce SEO marketing strategies no longer cut it. You’ll need to be ahead of the competition and introduce new ecommerce SEO and digital marketing techniques that will help your business stand out.

If you’re currently looking for ways to make your mark and progress the visibility of your ecommerce site, check out these advanced ecommerce SEO strategies for 2015.

Schema Markup

Schema Markup is essentially a microdata that makes it easier for search engines to understand what your content means. For example, the word “Sarah Collins” appears in the article – but for the search engine, this is just a random set of words with absolutely no meaning.

Schema Markup makes it possible for the search engine to identify Sarah Collins as the author of the article by placing the right microdata in the code. Now, whenever a search is made from the words “Sarah Collins”, it becomes easier for the search engine to crawl through your site and identify the important words.

Simply put, using Schema Markup helps increase your visibility online. It's far from being a "magical" fix on your ecommerce SEO strategy, but be aware that when combined with proper optimization techniques, schema can help you stand out from the crowd.

More on Schema can be found on Schema.org – and you’ll be glad to know that this project is actually collaboration between Yahoo, Google, and Bing.

Content Marketing Strategy

Content marketing is the use of articles, videos, images, and even audio to reach out to your market. In the old day, the basic concept for content marketing is simply: to create something the market finds useful/entertaining.

Today though, content marketing strategy is the buzzword in the SEO community. This is simply a documented, step-by-step plan, on what you plan to say and how you plan to say it. Your strategy should contribute towards a common whole and should include the following components: (1) business plan for innovation, (2) content mapping, (3) persona development of the target market, (4) brand story, and (5) business plan for content marketing.

More great SEO-driven content marketing strategies can be found at the ContentMarketingInstitute.com.

Ironing the Technical and Creative Team

When it comes to content, the typical flow is that the creative team works on the job first and when they’re done, the technical team swoops in and optimizes the system. This is a fairly good process – but you have to understand that the two teams sometimes do not meet eye to eye.

So how do you solve this problem? It’s a good idea to find an overlap between the two – don’t divide the team but rather, help each one find a common ground in the process of their work. This makes it easier for each one to create and optimize content for SEO with a common goal kept top of mind.

If you outsource your technical ecommerce SEO services then you'll want to ensure that there is good communication between this party and the creative team.

Invest in Mobile

This seems pretty basic, but the fact is that businesses aren’t paying as much attention to mobile as they need to. Remember: there’s wireless internet now, and the number of mobile phones in use are marginally larger than computers.

If you haven't heard already, Google has plans to roll-out a mobile search ranking factor that will diminish the rankings of non-mobile-friendly websites. In short, this new mobile friendly ranking signal can have a tremendous impact on your ecommerce site's rankings in Google mobile search. As a result, one of your advanced SEO strategies for 2015 therefore should involve mobile site optimization – specifically, mobile SEO.

Share SEO Information

Lastly, give your internet marketing teams the chance to bond, swap information, and learn from each other. Remember: they’re aiming for the same goal so it makes sense that they’d share information and use each other’s data to achieve results. For example, there’s SEO and PPC. The two might approach marketing in a completely different way, but you’ll find that SEO can supply PPC with invaluable information and vice versa. Ultimately, good synergy between your team will results in successful ecommerce SEO marketing strategies that win in 2015.

AdWords "Store Visits” Feature Measures Ad Influence on In-Store Traffic

If an individual buys clothing from Amazon.com then they can receive it as fast as the next day with overnight shipping. You might be surprised to learn though, that even in this age of smart phones and online shopping, in store transactions account for over 93% of all the retail sales in America. Shopping in the store will be around for quite some time.

Google Adwords

Because of this Google has launched a new metric as part of exploring marketing solutions linking AdWords back to in-store traffic. The way this works is through the sharing of smart phone location history combined with clicking of ads on the phone.

How it Works

A simple example would be you clicking on an ad for Macy’s on your smart phone. Then later you actually visited the store and allowed your phone to share its location with google. Of course there is so much more that goes in to these calculations and collection of data, but that is essentially how it works.

Of course, since Google has indeed been in trouble for privacy violations in the past, this brings up similar questions. Is this violating user privacy? The short answer to that is no. Not only is this feature carefully designed to maintain security of private data, but the smart phones submission of data will be sent in anonymously. This should be a sigh of relief for many who are insecure about their privacy being violated online, and we will see as time tells if Google is able to maintain this high security if controlled data.

Lacking Statistical Relevancy?

A problem with this marketing relationship is that it only measures in store visits, not actual purchases. So if a company wants to see the correlation between their AdWords clicks and actual revenue from product, they’ll have to wait a while longer. Google is actually working on a separate test to see if they can measure the relationship between purchases and the retailer’s data. However, as of the moment no such thing is available on the market.

Store Visits Traffic

Currently Google is looking for additional data to sample so if you are running a big retail business; it might be worth it to check it out. Google is very open about letting companies in to their trials so contacting a local rep to get more information is definitely an option. The future of this program is unsure but if enough companies show interest, then it could expand beyond retail and become quite large.

Again, this program is a new metric testing the relationship between clicks on AdWords and actual in store visits as recorded by smartphones location tracker. If this program is successful then it could have a quite a large impact on modern marketing strategies and be a great asset for the retail industry to increase store visits.

We live in the digital age of instant gratification. If you are sitting at home and get the sudden desire to see that one movie you loved as a child, all you have to do is pop open the online streaming service of your choice and watch it. This works for video games and TV-shows as well. Almost anything can be received extremely fast now days.

Employing Schema Markup for Ecommerce SEO

schema seo orgThe Schema markup is one of the latest and new forms of optimizing a website for better placement and unique identifications on search engine results. Some corporate and ecommerce SEO sites have utilized the SEO values of this new optimizing technology and they have achieved a great boost in their rankings. However, a majority of webmaster are missing out on the benefits of this advanced ecommerce SEO optimization due to lack of a clear understanding on how the Schema markup works.

Once you understand or grasp a concept on how to use Schema with your ecommerce website, you will discover that Schema markup is a very innovative and great ecommerce SEO optimizing technology to use on your site. The term Schema markup means "a semantic vocabulary that is placed on a website to help search engines determine the information displayed on a site in order to present informative results to users." Schema markup is very essential to Google’s rich snippets and generating enhanced Google listings.

Better Communicate Optimized Content to Search Engines

Normally when you write an article of a product description and publish it to your ecommerce site, Google and other search engines crawl your site and rank the post or page according to it’s Keywords and SEO score. If you post a new article with Schema markups, your website will be crawled in another different way than a normal crawl.

The search engines will interpret the code of the Schema markup and they will use it to better understand, rank, and display your site in the search engine results.

For example, if your ecommerce website specializes in selling "microwaves" and you happen to write a product description article about "microwaves". The search engines will note the keyword and place your site on search engine result page (SERP) for microwaves.

However, if you add aggregate rating Schema markup for 5 Star ratings after 245 reviews around the name "microwave". Search engines will be able to recognize that your site also includes rating reviews and a category ranking of the top 10 microwaves. With these details, the three main search engines will be able to provide results that will display better information of users searching for the term "microwave"

Attain Better Rankings & Enhanced Visibility

Schema markup helps to rank your website much better for all types of keywords and you can use it's designed data markup to improve your site visibility on local business, restaurants, Book reviews, Movies, TV episodes, and products. If your website deals with a specific product or many brands of products, you can add different Schema markup to improve it’s visibility on search engines, and improve your ecommerce SEO strategy

If you search for a particular popular product on Google, yahoo or Bing, you will notice that the first top five websites of the page results have Schema markup rich snippets related to the keywords you are searching on. Ecommerce site can take advantage of this SEO technology and utilize it for higher ranking and better placement on all search engines. Writing product descriptions and integrating them with rich schema markup can help to boost a low ranking ecommerce website and get it featured on the first page results of every search response of it's related keywords.

4 Tips to Jump-Start Your Content Marketing Strategy for 2015

Content marketing is the basis of almost every successful ecommerce web marketing strategy today. It’s important to place yourself in the running by fine tuning your strategy to produce the greatest influence.

Content is king these days, so getting to know what your target audience is looking for is extremely important. If you master your content marketing strategy you’ll notice a huge increase in your ecommerce business’ ROI, website traffic, and social media presence.

Content Strategy Ecommerce

Here are four steps to creating an effective content marketing strategy for your ecommerce business:

1. Figure Out Your Objectives What is it that you hope to gain through content marketing? It’s important to set clear cut goals. This makes it easier to implement strategies to help you reach them, as well as making it easier to track your progress. In order to know what’s working and what isn’t, you have to have objectives to relate to.

This also keeps you on track in terms of producing content in ways that will best help you meet these goals. Staying on track is incredibly important if you hope to reach any kind of success through your strategy. Write out a list of specific objectives you hope to accomplish, and time frames for them.

2. Pull Together an Effective Team Once you know what your objectives are, you can look for people that can help you reach these goals. Look at what you need, and find people that are suited to help you make plans and implement them in order to get to where you are looking to go. These are the people that will help you develop and implement a content strategy that fits your business’ needs, and those of your target audience.

3. Research Your Target Audience Take time to do in depth research on the kind of person that will help you meet your objectives. When you take a wild guess at who you think will be into what you are providing, often times you are wrong. This is why so many content marketing campaigns fail.

You can’t create ideal content for an audience that does not want it, because they will not be there. Know who you are looking for. Collect evidence from the vast libraries of research, articles, and tests you can find online. Create a persona based on the research that you’ve done - target them and no one else. The more specific you get, the better your odds.

4. Create Appealing Content This is where a lot of ecommerce businesses mess up. They create content that they think will pull attention, but it doesn’t. The sure fire way to get this part of the process down is to think about the content you are putting out there. Do not shoot blindly into the dark. You should know specifically what your buyers like and don’t like at this point. Use this to create content that they would find interesting and helpful.

Test your content out and watch the analytics. The analytics will not lie to you. Trust what your audience is telling you by interacting their engagement with your content. Then, tweak your strategy accordingly.

Remember that your ecommerce brand is creating a relationship here. To do this, you need to understand who your relationship is with. You need to engage with them, make them feel heard and a part of. You also need to listen to the feedback that they are giving you, and react accordingly. Keep testing and trying different things until you get it right. If you do this, you are sure to reap the benefits of a solid content marketing strategy.

On-site SEO Tips to Help Increase Your Google Rankings

Google SEOThere are many ways to ensure that your website is positioned well in Google's search engine rankings. If you follow some simple on-site SEO rules of thumb, it can mean the difference between ranking near the top, or not being found in the top 100. Below we share five easy yet highly effective SEO tips to help increase your website's Google search ranking.

Site Maps

Site Maps must be present on the site, as these pages act has primary navigators for search engine spiders. When SEO and website optimization initially came into being, HTML language was the only option to utilize. Today, there is another known as Extensive Mark-up Language or XML.

While HTML is still recommended by Google to be utilized for the site map on your site, they also recommend that XML be used. The site administration has the ability to determine and feed information to search engines with these two languages. The difference is that with XML, pages are crawled as priority and higher up the ladder of site content alongside of the most recent updates, making it the most preferred language of the two.

On-Page SEO

Several factors make up good page copy. Among them are unique quality content that is keyword relevant, Schema markup, optimizing images, media, and the like to reach success with SEO and website optimization. Pages need to precisely define the page matter. Title tags should be original and thoughtful so that web browsers will be inclined to stop web surfing long enough to see what the site is about, what it has to offer, and if it is something that can interest or help them.

Creativity should thrive here to maintain interest and captivate the reader. Titles should be brief but descript. Human beings have a short attention span, so in order to maintain appeal, keep with easy reading and short phrases. All tags including meta tag should be usable for the purposes of maintaining reader attention. A description of what the site is about should be included, followed by concise text, short and descriptive.

Link Structure

Links should pop enough to catch the reader’s attention, but not so much that they distract from the article. It is a good idea to use alternate text when images are utilized as links. This makes it easier for Google to differentiate what is happening on the website and act accordingly. Include a summary of the page. This will allow the web surfer to determine if he or she wants to continue surfing the site or move on to another site.

Navigation

If the web page is put together well with interesting content, chances are more likely than not that they will keep reading. It is important to remember to utilize text primarily for navigating a website. When utilizing images for navigation purposes, it makes this process more complex than it needs to be and that can send potential customers running to another site. Simplicity is key with any website.

The more crisp and neat a website is, statistically, it is likely to get more hits. Compare major brands, it is easy to see why they work. Content should be based on the perspective of the customer not the SEO. Too many individuals building websites get wrapped up at looking through the wrong lens and the site does not do well. Look at the site through the customers eyes.

Optimized Media

Media is a huge outlet to attract new customers and remind old ones where a specific website is so take advantage of these places. Facebook, LinkedIn, and others are constantly being utilized around the world 24 hours a day. Use these resources to increase business.

Remember, successful websites do not run themselves without a bit of help. SEO is a somewhat of a science. Successful website owners know how to utilize the tools to gain the most success. Be one of them by following some basics that can make the difference in becoming successful at increasing Google rankings.
